DNA String (2021)

This artwork was created to look at the strength of genetics regarding how a person looks. In the piece is photos of my Nan, Mum, and myself as young children. It explores how the different features fit together with one another to create a new person who would potentially look similar to all of us individually and combined. The use of the sewing string into the pieces was the representation of DNA strands that have been passed on through the generations which impacted how we looked.

The artist that most inspired me was Annegret Soltau’s ‘Mutter-Glock’ which directly translated means ‘Joy of Motherhood’. Due to the technique of stitching parts of faces together it inspired me to add this with the context of DNA.
