Throughout the last year and the crisis, we find ourselves in, I have been heavily inspired by our essential workers and their efforts to minimise the effect of COVID-19 on our lives. My piece is in honour and celebration of those workers.
After exploring different ideas of how to best convey my message, I decided to use mask imagery, something I see as a symbol of our unified efforts in protecting each other.
The artist Freyja Sewell has been a huge inspiration to me throughout this project, her Key Workers Masks series inspired me to create my own set of masks, each based on a different element of the essential work force that I believe were invaluable to society. Using colour association and featuring myself in the pieces I hope to create a similar feeling of gratitude and appreciation that Sewell inspired in her pieces.
